The Holy Spirit helps us remember things! Thank you Lord, because I have a hard time remembering things at all. In the old testament God commanded the children of Israel:
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deut 6:6-7
They were to say His words over and over so that they would get into their heart, and so that they wouldn’t forget. This commandment was given in the law, but Jesus said that we would walk by faith and not the law.
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 9:31-33
Jesus made a new way:
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matt 24:35
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26
Here are some examples:
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. John 12:16
Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Acts 11:16
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. John 2:17
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Luke 22:61
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, Luke 24:5-8
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
John 2:22
Have you ever tried to teach a little child something and they don’t get it and don’t get it, but then its as if a light bulb goes on? They are so excited! And even when they are older and remember back on that thing they learned, they remember who taught them it, and the joy of figuring it out. It’s the fellowship they remember most, i remember fishing with my grandfather and I learned how to bait a hook, and to be quiet, and what size hook to use, how to fix a tangled line, I still know all those things, but whenever I go fishing I remember the joy of fishing with my grandfather and I think of him.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matt 11:29-30
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
There are many ways that the Lord quickens us, here are some I found in Psalm 119:
Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness. Psalms 119:40
…for thy word hath quickened me. Psalms 119:50
Quicken me after thy lovingkindness… Psalms 119:88
I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. Psalms 119:93
…quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word. Psalms 119:107
…O Lord, quicken me according to thy judgment. Psalms 119:149
In the new testament it says:
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:11
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Cor 3:17-18
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 1 Cor 15:45
For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. John 5:21
